Mā Al-Akhbār? · ما الأخبار؟

Privacy Notice

Effective October 28, 2026 · Seller: Laetitia Qabbani-Rouget

1. Who is responsible for your data

Laetitia Qabbani-Rouget, operating Mā Al-Akhbār? (ما الأخبار؟), is the data controller for personal data processed to provide the Arabic-learning service. This notice describes that processing. Paddle separately handles purchase-related personal data as our Merchant of Record under Paddle’s Privacy Policy.

2. Information we process and why

  • Account information: email address, account identifier, authentication information and any profile details you provide, to create your account, sign you in and secure access.
  • Learning information: writing submissions, saved expressions, speaking transcripts, exercise results, scores, feedback and AI-usage records, to provide practice, show your history and manage usage limits.
  • Speech recordings: recordings you choose to submit are sent for transcription so we can return speaking feedback. The app stores transcripts and results rather than the submitted recording as part of your learning history. This does not describe the separate retention practices of transcription providers.
  • Subscription and trial information: plan, subscription identifiers, status and billing dates, plus account and hashed-email trial eligibility records, to manage access, prevent repeated trials and respond to verified payment events. Card details are handled by Paddle’s checkout, not collected by our lesson pages.
  • Technical information: IP addresses, device/browser information and request or error information processed when you access the service, for delivery, troubleshooting and security.
  • Support correspondence: information you provide when asking for help or making a rights request, to respond and resolve the matter.

Reading activity, flashcard revision state and audio-speed preferences are also kept locally in your browser. They are not all synchronised with your account. Tapped-word translations are cached using the lesson word and sentence context so repeated lookups can reuse an existing result.

3. Legal bases

Where applicable data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our contract to provide your account, learning tools and subscription; legitimate interests to operate, protect and troubleshoot the service, prevent abuse and enforce usage limits; legal obligations for required transaction and legal records; and consent where required for optional processing. Microphone access requires your browser permission, and you decide whether to submit a recording. We do not use your learning submissions for marketing under this notice.

4. Who receives information

We use service providers for hosting, authentication, data storage and AI processing. Lovable Cloud provides the app’s hosting and account/data services. Text selected for translation, writing submissions and speaking transcripts or recordings needed for a requested AI activity pass through Lovable’s AI service to the relevant model provider, currently OpenAI models. Avoid including confidential or sensitive information that is not needed for an exercise.

We share purchase and subscription information with Paddle for the sale of the product, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing. Information may also be shared with support providers where needed to answer a request, professional legal or accounting advisers, and public authorities where required by law. External publisher links take you to independently operated sites governed by their own policies.

5. Retention

Account details, learning submissions and saved history are retained while needed to provide your account and learning experience. Trial eligibility, subscription, security and legal records may need to be kept longer to prevent abuse or meet legal obligations. A subscription ending does not itself delete your learning history. Our policy is to delete or anonymise personal data when it is no longer needed for these purposes; no fixed automatic deletion period is promised by this notice. AI providers’ processing and retention are subject to their own terms and applicable service arrangements.

Browser-local progress and preferences remain until you remove them or clear the site’s browser storage. Clearing that storage may remove progress that has not been stored with your account.

6. Your rights

Depending on the law applicable to you, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection to processing, and withdraw consent where processing relies on it. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing. Where UK or EEA data-protection law applies, you also have the right to complain to your supervisory authority; rights requests are normally answered within one month, with any lawful extension explained. Identity verification may be needed before personal data is disclosed or changed.

For privacy questions relating to a purchase, contact Paddle purchase support. To have a service-related request directed to the seller, identify Mā Al-Akhbār and Laetitia Qabbani-Rouget and ask for it to be forwarded to the seller. Do not send passwords or payment-card details.

7. Security and international processing

We are committed to using appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, with access limited to what is needed to provide and administer the service. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. This notice does not claim a security certification or promise particular encryption or audit outcomes.

Our service providers may process information outside your country, including outside the UK or EEA. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, those transfers must use an applicable adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses or another lawful safeguard. This notice does not claim that a specific transfer arrangement has been independently audited.

8. Cookies and browser storage

The service uses authentication/session storage to keep you signed in, and local browser storage for reading progress, flashcards and audio preferences. This notice does not authorise optional analytics or marketing cookies. You can manage site storage and cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential storage may affect sign-in and saved local progress. If optional cookies are introduced, their purposes and any required preference controls must be disclosed before use.

9. Changes and related policies

We may update this notice when the service or data practices change, updating the effective date and providing further notice where required. See our Terms & Conditions and Refund Policy for service and purchase terms.
